It’s a showdown, and an EPA decision between them is imminent. On one side, are the scientists, who all say we need better national standards to protect our health from smog. On the other, are big polluters, who have gone to the White House to try to prevent that from happening.

EPA’s independent science advisers unanimously say that EPA needs to update current standards and make them stronger in order to protect people’s health. (That’s because smog – technically, ground-level ozone – hurts children with asthma. It sends children and adults to hospital emergency rooms. And now we know it even kills.)

And now the moment of truth is at hand. Will the EPA side with science and health, or with big polluters?
